2022 AAC-QLD Christmas Party

As 2022 drew to a close and our last official practice weekend was over, we celebrated the year gone by with our Awards Presentation and Christmas Party.

Another successful and safe State Championship was held over the weekend 30th April to 2nd May. Very trying for the Contest Officials and pilots with showers interrupting practice on the Friday and competition flights on the Saturday. One thing for certain, Chief Judge Russ gave the competitors a full run down of the rules involving cloud heights and weather breaks. We managed to get Advanced and Intermediate Programme 1 completed mid Saturday afternoon. Sunday, the weather was a little kinder to us with completion of Programmes 1 and 2 for all grades and Programme 3 for Advanced.

Congratulations to Patrick Humphries for winning the Tony Gordon Memorial Trophy with an overall percentage of 83.397.

The success of these events is only possible with a committed committee and my thanks go out to all the members on the committee. Special thanks must go to the Contest Secretary Liz Cook and Chief Judge Russell Sneyd. Thanks to Contest Director Chris Beves who took on the position on short notice and all those other helpers who I won`t name in fear of missing out someone, you know who you are and give yourself a pat on the back.

I am so proud of the women who worked quietly away providing everyone with breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon tea and dinner. Emma, your efforts were fantastic and equally matched the delicious meals you severed up with your lovely smile. All good cooks need good helpers, Lisa Foy, Jenny Woodhouse, Juliane Newby worked tirelessly over the three days, and I also glimpsed over to the kitchen and saw Katrina Crass and Yuko helping. Kerry Bakker, thanks for your kind donation towards the kitchen. Merryn, your work in preparation of the baked items and organising the catering leading up to the weekend is as always, much appreciated. Those that I have missed, please accept my thanks and apologies.

It was a delight to catch up with some members that I have not seen in awhile. State Competitions always raise some eyebrows and find themselves driving or flying out to have a look and socialize.

Finally, thank you to all the competitors for your professional attitude to your flying, safety and directions of the Contest Director, Chief Judge, and the Contest Secretary.
